What does Microsoft's MFA enforcement mean for you?
Multifactor authentication (MFA): many people find it difficult. That is why some organizations have chosen not to set up MFA everywhere. Understandable, because you want employees to be able to work easily and smoothly. At the same time, security is essential. And with that in mind, MFA is a must-have today.
That is why Microsoft introduced MFA enforcement in October. You could postpone it for a while, but now the deadline is fast approaching. Soon, MFA will no longer be an option. You have to do it.
Curious about what MFA Enforcement entails and what measures you need to take? We will explain it in this blog post!
How relevant is MFA Enforcement for you?
Let's start with the applications that MFA Enforcement applies to.
We list them for you:
- Azure portal
- Microsoft Entra admin center
- Microsoft Intune admin center
- Microsoft 365 admin center
- Azure command-line interface (Azure CLI)
- Azure PowerShell
- Azure mobile app
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools
Do your users log in to these applications? Then you are required to use MFA from March 15. If you have not configured MFA by then, users simply will not be able to log in to their account.
It may seem like the process is becoming more cumbersome, but in fact you can make it much more secure with a relatively small action. Research by Microsoft shows that MFA can block more than 99.2 percent of attacks on accounts. This means that MFA is an effective security measure — and that is why Microsoft has chosen to make MFA mandatory for the applications in question.
What measures should you take?
It is smart to perform this scan first. This shows you which accounts are affected by Microsoft's MFA Enforcement. This way, you know exactly which accounts you need to take action on.
The exact actions you need to perform depend on the context. The leading question is: 'How and for what do you use each account?'
