'Traditional' versus cloud: to what extent is your workplace management in order?

Have you not (fully) embraced the cloud-managed workplace yet? If so, you probably perform multiple manual management actions. And you use various tools to do so. This can make processes unnecessarily complicated and slow. And in some cases, this affects the employee experience. How exactly does that happen? We list three situations in which many organizations could use some optimization. Because things can often be a lot simpler!

1. Onboarding of employees

A new employee joins your organization who can really strengthen it. You want this person to get off to a flying start. That way you keep the momentum going, make the new employee feel welcome and promote efficiency. In that context, it is crucial that you give the employee a well-functioning device on day one, such as a laptop on which all the necessary applications are installed. But the reality is that after a week you are still figuring out how to get everything up and running. The consequences: cumbersome processes and a significant drop in initial enthusiasm.

How to better manage the onboarding process? By setting up a modern, cloud-managed Intune workplace. First, you want to set up good profiles. You link the right rights and applications to them. Depending on your organization, it's also useful to include these profiles in your HRM system. When a new employee joins, you know what rights and applications this person should have, based on the role. Once you have these things set up, the process of issuing them is also greatly simplified. So this approach saves you a lot of manual work and provides you with a worry-free process!

2. Inventory management of IT

Which devices are all employees currently using? How many laptops are due for replacement soon? What is the procedure when someone loses a laptop? When it comes to IT inventory management, many organizations struggle with a lack of insight and overview. As a result, the IT department often cannot answer important questions on this topic (or cannot answer them quickly enough). This comes at the expense of efficiency.

If you manage the workplace in the cloud, you can incorporate your entire inventory management into this. From equipment inventory to processes around the intake and destruction of obsolete devices, it's easy to handle everything in a streamlined way. Because you have overview, it's also easier to make sure you always have enough devices in stock. If a laptop breaks down, for example, you get it repaired and easily provide the employee with a replacement.

3. Offboarding of employees

When an employee leaves, it brings with it an administrative burden. For the offboarding process, you have developed a real script. After all, you have to perform all kinds of manual operations. For example, you want to remove permissions, delete data and take devices. This extensive process is both time-consuming and error-prone.

The solution? Automation. On a cloud-based workplace, you set up the process properly once, after which you run it streamlined and smoothly. Because the many manual actions are eliminated, you can plan ahead. This makes offboarding more efficient and easier.

Fewer “IT peripherals,” more added value

In summary, workplace management in the cloud saves you a lot of time, effort and repetitive manual work. It gives your IT team space to focus on core processes that affect the business. After all, you can automate the “IT peripherals. And so your IT people add much more value for the organization!
